Current Status of the Plastics Industry: Promising Outlook, Many Problems
With the advancement of processing technology and production equipment, thermoplastic and thermosetting plastic products—processed through various techniques such as blow molding using plastic materials as raw materials—are being used more and more widely in different production and living scenarios. In various industries such as light industrial machinery, agriculture, forestry, and transportation, plastic products are extensively applied.
However, since plastic products are high-molecular polymers, how to handle waste plastic products has become a challenging issue. Simple landfilling makes it difficult for plastic products to decompose and can pollute the soil environment. If incineration is used, auxiliary materials added during the plastic production process will produce toxic and harmful gases, polluting the air.
It is understood that the emergence and development of the recycled plastics industry is expected to solve the problem of plastic pollution. In recent years, people have paid more attention to the quality of the living environment, and public environmental awareness has continuously strengthened. Additionally, the rise in crude oil prices has driven up the price of plastic raw materials, providing a good development opportunity for the clean and environmentally friendly recycled plastics industry. Industry experts say that through technological innovation in products and industrial structural adjustments, China's recycled plastics industry has made great progress and is developing toward high quality, diverse varieties, and high technology.
Despite the promising prospects for China's recycled plastics industry, it still faces many problems in the actual development process. On one hand, because recycled plastics come from a wide range of sources, their quality is uneven, and performance varies greatly between batches, leading to relatively low stability in the quality of recycled plastics. On the other hand, the cost required for recycled plastics is relatively high, and its price exceeds that of virgin plastics. Furthermore, judging from the overall situation of the current recycled plastics industry, domestic waste plastic recycling enterprises are still dominated by small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and the industry concentration is scattered. Since waste plastic recycling and reuse is a complex process with high technical requirements, China's domestic recycled plastics industry still relies mainly on physical recycling, which undoubtedly hinders the development process of the entire industry to some extent.
Experts believe that under the macro background of the country vigorously promoting the circular economy, implementing traditional industrial reforms, and advancing environmentally friendly sustainable development, although there are still various problems in the domestic recycled plastics industry that need to be solved, the development prospects of the recycled plastics industry remain bright. Domestic enterprises in the plastics industry should seize the opportunity, develop recycled plastic production projects, and promote the green development of the industry.
Some Domestic Plastic Molds Starting to Replace Imported Products
The mold industry is a fundamental industry in the national economy, involving various sectors such as machinery, automobiles, light industry, electronics, chemicals, metallurgy, and building materials, with a very wide range of applications. China's industrial development is rapid, and the growth of automobile manufacturing, IT manufacturing, and medical devices has brought development opportunities to the entire mold industry.
In recent years, domestic enterprises have continuously improved mold process technologies and products. Consequently, some plastic molds or injection-molded parts have begun to circulate internationally, successfully entering the supply chain systems of some high-end industries, and even replacing some imported products, getting rid of the dependence on them. However, it is undeniable that only a small portion has entered the international high-end market.
As the technical level of China's mold industry improves and the product tiers gradually increase, some international OEM industry supply chain systems are further leaning toward domestic enterprises, which will be both an opportunity and a challenge. It is understood that by 2015, the self-sufficiency rate of molds required by the Chinese market will reach over 85%, and the self-sufficiency ratio of mid-to-high-end molds will significantly increase.
Some experts point out that in the future, China's mold industry should not only continue to improve production capacity but also focus on internal structural adjustment and the improvement of technical development levels. This mainly involves adjusting the enterprise structure toward specialization, developing the product structure toward mid-to-high-end molds, and improving the import and export structure. Development will focus on the forming analysis and structural improvement of mid-to-high-end automotive skin panel molds, multi-functional compound molds and compound machining, the application of laser technology in mold design and manufacturing, high-speed cutting, ultra-precision machining and polishing technology, and informatization.
